Director Nikita Milivojevic, whose staging of Shakespeare's Henry VI will premiere May 11 in London, sees the invitation as a very special moment in an already accomplished career.

"To play at the Globe Theatre, to be invited to hold a premiere at Shakespeare's theater, is very important for any director. For all of us in the theater, the Globe is almost a mythical place, so I have every reason to be very excited," he said in an interview for Tanjug.

Asked why he chose Henry VI, Milivojevic said:

"Henry is not the most popular of Shakespeare's plays, nor one of his best. But I like the unfinished things, there is a lot of room for a director to work in," he said.

Milivojevic believes the content of Henry VI is another thing that makes it the right choice at this moment.

"This story is very tied to my reality right now, my thoughts about where we are, what we are, what is happening to us, how we are living. It is a story that repeats through the course of history. I also dealt with this a little bit when I did (Ivo Andric's) "The Bridge on the Drina." Some things are completely the same throughout history, they just become more sophisticated, but all the conflicts and problems you find in Shakespeare you can recognize in another form in your own time," said Milivojevic.

"I've always felt Henry VI lacked humor, so I tried to find some as I adapted the text. We started with a drama and we got a sort of tragicomedy, with elements of grotesque," he said.

Henry VI is played by Hadzi Nenad Maricic, and the cast includes Predrag Ejdus, Miodrag Krivokapic and Slobodan Bestic. The only female part, that of Joan of Arc, went to Milivojevic's student Jelena Djulvezan.

The play will be performed in Serbian, without subtitles.

The ensemble will travel to London in early May for final rehearsals, and the Belgrade premiere is expected in early June.
