California is one of the most beautiful and diverse destinations in the U.S. This state stands out not only because of its spectacular beauty, pleasant climate throughout the year, numerous food choices, and prominent Californian wines, but also because of its unique atmosphere created by Californians that originate from every part of this planet.
California is the third-largest U.S. state, covering over 250,000 square kilometers, with a population of some 37 million inhabitants.
Sacramento is the capital of California, which is at the same time the oldest continuous settlement on the territory of California. Originally known as „Old Sacramento“, this settlement was founded in 1839 by John Sutter at the banks of river Sacramento and today is one of the leading tourist destinations that includes numerous attractions, such as „Wells Fargo History Museum“ and „California State Capitol Museum“, which have been recently renovated.
Additionally, in Sacramento one can visit the famous „International World Peace Rose Garden“, a Victorian garden with over 800 rose varieties. Although being the capitol of the third-largest U.S. state, Sacramento has less than 500,000 inhabitants.
To many, California is associated with big cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, or San Diego, of which a lot has been written and filmed. While these cities demand to be explored, California offers so much more – from beaches to mountains, to the desert. Of course, there is also Napa Valley and Sonoma County, both famous for their extraordinary wines.
With its mild Mediterranean climate, Sonoma is home to over 250 wineries, some of them open for visits and degustation even without previous notification. Some of them, like Deloach Vineyards in Santa Rosa, offer complete weekend arrangements including yoga classes, vegetarian cuisine, wine degustation, etc. Others, such as Mars Hotel, offer one day field trips, including wild mushroom collection trips that usually end with a private culinary class coached by Peter Brown, a mushroom expert.
Regardless whether you are in the mood for a vacation on the beach, wild nightlife, visiting world famous movie attractions, experiencing rich and picturesque history, or enjoying fantastic natural beauties, California has a lot to offer.
