Regardless of the fact that Serbia is not going to pay penalties because of several hundred of its citizens who have requested asylum mostly in Brussels, the country should monitor the illegal emigrants who rushed to Europe after the cancellation of visas in search of better living conditions, since there is always a possibility that EU countries might take additional measures making travelling more difficult.

The motto “All roads go to Brussels” is not typical of the Serbian political elite only.

Several hundred Albanians and Roma from the south of Serbia have understood this motto literally. They headed straight for the capital of Belgium in order to obtain political asylum and thus solve their economic problems.

Political asylum is not obtained due to bad financial situation which they mentioned as the main argument, and Serbia is a democratic country in which human rights are not jeopardized.

Such excuses are therefore not realistic – European and Serbian officials said.
