Telenor marks Fifth Business Anniversary in Serbia

Telenor users got the fastest and most sophisticated network, innovative and creative services, and support in the areas of art, vulnerable groups, education and sports
In five years of operations at the Serbian market, Telenor has expanded the service offer and, in addition to mobile telephony, started operating in the areas of the Internet and fixed telephony. Today, it offers the fastest network to users in Serbia, ready to support the most advanced services and devices, and its overall reconstruction represents one the largest capital investments in Serbia this year.
“Telenor has made a firm promise to Serbia when in 2006 the Company entered this market as the largest foreign investor so far. In five years, we have continued with major investments in our staff, network and client relations. We are currently launching our latest network throughout Serbia in order to make additional improvements to the Internet access and thus make significant contribution to the social and economic growth of this country. What has Telenor brought to citizens of Serbia?
Available Internet – Thirty-four free-of-charge Internet parks have been opened across Serbia, with 10 parks Belgrade is the European leader in regard to the number of the Internet parks. Owners of simpler versions of phones have simple Internet access owing to the Telenor KLIK service.
Safe Internet for children – Filters for blocking access to illegal sites with elements of sexual abuse of children have been introduced, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Owing to cooperation with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society on the “Click Safely” project, psychologists, pedagogues, parents and children have been educated in regard to the safe Internet use in schools across Serbia.
Black mobile phone market in Serbia rooted out – Telenor has introduced legal channels of servicing and sales of mobile phones.
“Prenesi“ packages – With packages from the “Prenesi“ family, Telenor introduced transfer of unused minutes to the Serbian market: users can transfer all unused minutes, text messages and the Internet traffic in the following three months. “Prenesi” packages have become one of hallmarks of Telenor brand
Mobile phone as payment tool - Serbia is one of a few countries in Europe with a simple and safe system of payment via mobile phone directly from a bank account of an owner.
Environmental protection – Owing to Telenor, the first hybrid base station in Serbia has been launched, using solar and wind energy. In the last five years, more than 70,000 mobile phones have been recycled in the pioneering campaign.
Investments in Serbian society – The Telenor Foundation has implemented more than 100 projects in the areas of youth education, support to socially vulnerable groups, culture and art, and environmental protection. All the projects are long-term projects, sustainable and directed towards the resolution of specific problems in a systemic manner. The Foundation is a strategic partner of the Petnica Research Station, while it also additionally motivates young talents by granting the annual “Prof. Dr Ilija Stojanović“ Award to graduates from the Faculty of Electric Engineering in Belgrade. Vulnerable groups have been supported – students with disabilities have received the University Centre in Belgrade, Kragujevac has obtained the Social Club for Children with Disabilities, health of the Roma has been improved through the “”Povezivanje“ project.
Artistic scene revived – Eleven cities in Serbia have obtained murals made by young local artists, the capital has been decorated with murals of the most prominent artists of the world street painting. Telenor’s collection of Serbian contemporary art has been established, including 160 works of 60 Serbian artists, and exhibited in all major cities of Serbia.
Support to Serbian athletes from Beijing to London – Constant investments in Serbian sports, through the general sponsorship of the Olympic Committee of Serbia since 2007. Telenor has additionally sponsored athletes in individual sports for the Games in Beijing 2008.
