Bulgarian, Greek PMs to open Zlatograd-Xanthi border checkpoint

The new road linking Thermes, near Xanthi, northeastern Greece with Zlatograd and Plovdiv, Bulgaria, will reduce the present 6-hour drive by half, to three hours.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko and his Greek counterpart Georgios Papandreou are to open Zlatograd-Xanthi border checkpoint on Friday. Borisov’s delegation consists of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and Deputy Foreign Minister Marin Raykov.
The event will be attended also by His Grace metropolitan bishop Nikolay, Zlatograd Mayor Miroslav Yanchev, Smolyan Mayor Dora Yankova, district governors, and MPs.
The new border checkpoint will be essential for the development of the bilateral ties between Bulgaria and Greece.
