Replying to a note from the Russian Embassy in Sofia dated 19 February 2010, and in the spirit of transparency of bilateral relations, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has confirmed once again that so far no official negotiations have been held for the deployment in Bulgarian territory of components from the missile defence shield, the Ministry announced.

In the meantime the Bulgarian side pointed out that acquisition of nuclear and missile capacities in violation of the nonproliferation agreements by countries or by terrorist networks, was a major threat to collective security.

As member of NATO, Bulgaria will continue to stick scrupulously to NATO’s joint approach for decision making in security, including the missile defense shield
