Romania's goal is to maintain an assistance agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including after it leaves the crisis behind, stated Wednesday evening President Traian Basescu, estimating at the same time that no new stand-by agreement will be needed.
"Both during the talks held in January with IMF and last week with the new World Bank (WB) director for Europe and Asia, our goal is to continue to cooperate with these institutions, even after the Romanian economy gets out of the crisis. Certainly, not necessarily based on the IMF financing, therefore I do not estimate we will need another stand-by agreement, but we are to keep an assistance accord both with IMF and with the World Bank", said the President present in the opening of the General Assembly works of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania.
"The programme we are to develop with IMF and WB are primarily focused on technical assistance and as set objectives those resulted from the new EU 2020 strategy, we have to fulfill through the convergence programme and we also have in view utilization with priority of the EU funds", pointed out Basescu.
