In the organization of the initiative "Citizens for Europe", representing a network of NGOs from entire BiH, the first out of five sessions was held in Sarajevo today with a purpose of improving the quality of dialogue between civil society and political parties on key issues for EU integration process.
The first session was held on topic "Energy and Environment: The Situation with Renewable Energy Resources and Energy Efficiency in BiH".
The host of this activity was OHR wit financial support from Swedish SIDA agency.
"BiH is the only country in the region that exports electric energy, with another 64% of unused hydro potential.
There is also solar energy and wind energy, with all these being renewable types of energy and far better than oil, primarily for being clean energy.
There are IPA funds for such projects, worth several million euro, as well as other funds and loans by EBRD, World Bank and others.
There is a shortage of electricity in the region, being this Dalmatia, Kosovo, Italy or Albania, BiH sould position itself as one of the major exporters of energy", stated HR Inzko.
Swedish Ambassador Bosse Hedberg stated that this initiative has nothing to do with politics.
"In a country where 75% of citizens supports EU membership, and especially in this election year, it is necessary to place the issue of EU integration in the focus of attention", said Hedberg.
