The International Monetary Fund (IMF) team understands the pressure put on the budget that Romania's Government has available these days, visiting IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said during talks with Prime Minister Emil Boc on Tuesday.

"We understand this crisis has hit your citizens and this situation should be remedied and, therefore certainly these days there is a pressure on the budget. /.../ So we are capable of understanding this and we try to see together with you how we can keep the balance given the needs you sustain," Strauss-Kahn said.

He added the IMF team might seem tough sometimes, but it tries to guide Romania on the right path.

'I think that the excellent relation that the IMF has with the Government is very useful since, as you said, we are here to help you, to bring you back to the correct way, for you to implement the policies you choose, even though the IMF team might seem a little tough sometimes', he stressed.
