The government wants to encourage investment cycles and help the construction sector by investing in road construction, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said on Tuesday while visiting a construction site at the Busevec-Lekenik section of the Zagreb-Sisak motorway.

Investing HRK 645 million in this section of the Zagreb-Sisak motorway is important, and this can kickstart an investment cycle and help the construction sector to turn the corner, the premier said.

She added that the construction of motorways was proceeding in line with the government's plan for motorway and road construction and maintenance in 2010.

"We are going step by step, such are the times," Kosor said,

The Busevec-Lekenik section is 11.2 kilometres long and is being built by domestic companies -- Konstruktor-inzenjering, Hidroelektra Niskogradnja and Osijek Koteks. It includes two bridges, six overpasses and other structures.

The 47.9-kilometre Zagreb-Sisak motorway will cost HRK 5.1 billion. Its construction is to be finished in two and a half years' time.
