While the Adriatic end destination like hotels registered a six per cent decrease in tourists this year compared to the first five months of 2009, the border crossings saw an increase in traffic.

In these five months, 8.7 per cent more passengers came in to Croatia then in 2009.

According to the border agents, there were 46.5 million travellers, or 28.5 million of them with foreign passports.

So where did they go, the Croatian daily Vecernji List wonders. Part of the motorized passengers crossed Croatia on their way to a different destination or their own countries, while a part of them stayed in central Croatia, with seaside destinations feeling the decrease.
