The Dubai-based Al-Arabiya TV channel aired a video, which it says may serve as a proof that the suspect in the failed New York bombing had links with the Pakistani Taliban.

Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin, was apprehended two days after the failed Times Square attack and pleaded guilty to all charges in late June.

The 40-minute video shows Shahzad dressed in traditional tribal clothes, holding an AK-47 assault rifle and speaking in English.

"Islam will spread on the whole world and democracy will be defeated," he says. "The attack on the United States will be a revenge for all the mujahedeen, the fighters and the weak and the oppressed Muslims."

In his speech, he mentions prominent Al Qaeda leader Baitullah Mehsud, who died in Iraq in 2006, and Pakistani Taliban leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi killed last year.

The video also shows Shahzad shaking hands with the current Pakistan Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud.

"I really wish the hearts of the Muslims will be pleased with this attack," he said.

On May 1 a homemade explosive device was discovered in a dark-colored sports utility vehicle parked at the square, and subsequently defused. The device, which would have caused a significant fireball if detonated, was made of ordinary items widely available in U.S. shops.

Shahzad was arrested two days later trying to fly to Dubai from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. On June 21 he pleaded guilty to 10 terrorism-related charges, including the attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, and faces life in prison if found guilty.
