The Government of the Republic of Srpska has assessed that there is no foundation for Bosnia-Herzegovina to recognize the self-declared independence of Kosmet, while pointing that it supports the attempts of Serbia to resolve the issue of the status of the Province in a diplomatic and constructive manner.
The Government has pointed that the opinion of counsel of the International Court of Justice has great significance for the Republic of Srpska, having in mind its Constitutional position and special ties with Serbia.
It has been concluded that the International Court of Justice had pointed that the general provisions of the international law do not contain the prohibition of unilateral declarations of independence, but do not confirm that Kosmet has attained statehood.
The Government has ordered the Ministry of Justice to prepare a decision on forming an expert group to analyze the opinion of ICJ, and later submit a report on that.
