Encephalitis cases rise in Greece

The Control Center for Disease Prevention says that cases identified with West Nile virus have risen to 32 following laboratory tests, 11 more cases of the ones referred yesterday.

The Control Center for Disease Prevention says that cases identified with West Nile virus have risen to 32 following laboratory tests, 11 more cases of the ones referred yesterday.

One of the nine patients admitted to Thessaloniki Hospital for infectious diseases was released today while the others are in a very good state said the hospital director Petros Seridis.

In Beroia hospital 6 of the 9 people admitted were infected with the west Nile virus.

Health authorities in Macedonia are on the alert, however, they advise people not be overcome by fear.

In the meantime, Thessaloniki deputy Prefect chaired a meeting on Wednesday attended by sectors involved in the combat of mosquitoes during which need for pesticide spraying at least till September, 15 was decided.
