The Parliament this coming Monday (Dec. 13) will debate a draft-decision on its dissolution, submitted by SDSM opposition party during Sunday's protest, demanding early elections.

The Parliament this coming Monday (Dec. 13) will debate a draft-decision on its dissolution, submitted by SDSM opposition party during Sunday's protest, demanding early elections.

Draft-amendments to the Electoral Code, also submitted by the opposition party, will be debated at the first subsequent regular Parliament session, which is scheduled on Dec. 27, according to the Parliament Speaker's cabinet.

The parliamentary majority expects SDSM's motion on Parliament's dissolution, which is also backed by other opposition parties, not to be accepted.

On Wednesday, VMRO-DPMNE ruling party at a session of its executive committee reached a decision not to endorse early elections, while its coalition partner DUI on Thursday reiterated that it was not the time for elections, but "for uniting political factors in settling the name issue."

At the moment there are no objective reasons and justification to halt the four-year mandate given by the citizens for carrying out promised projects in the programme, VMRO-DPMNE said late on Wednesday.

Safet Neziri of DUI stated his party championed Macedonia to accelerate integration processes into EU and NATO. "We think that early polls are a waste of time for Macedonia, which will slow down the integration bid of the country," said Neziri.

SDSM vice-president Gordan Georgiev told a press conference on Thursday that his party, despite VMRO-DPMNE's decision, would continue its struggle for early parliamentary polls. "All democratic means will be used for early elections to be held," he pledged.
