The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Diocese of Dalmatia, with a seat in Sibenik, Croatia, said in a release late Monday that its priest in the town of Drnis, Zdravko Tepic, reported a break-in at the local temple.

Tepic found the Temple of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin with a broken front door and nationalist graffiti and profanities scribbled over the inside walls, it was published on the Diocese website.

The case was reported to the Drnis police, which inspected the scene, adds the release.

Attacks on Serb churches have been frequent in recent months in Knin, and other towns in Dalmatia, as well as in the Diocese of Upper Karlovac, which encompasses Lika, Banija, Kordun and Gorski Kotar.

Bishop of Dalmatia Fotije and Bishop of Upper Karlovac Gerasim urged the Croatian Interior Ministry on several occasions to protect the Serb churches, priests and people, who are subjected to threats.

In letters to Croatian officials, they pointed to numerous attacks on Serb returnees, SPC priests, temples, monuments and cemeteries, noting that all of this is making Serbs in Croatia very anxious about their future.
