The price of bread in Croatia is expected to rise 20 per cent by March due a huge hike in flour prices, the daily 24 Sata has reported.

Just in the last few weeks, flour prices have gone up 120 per cent, the daily writes.

At the same time, vegetable prices have risen by 50 per cent. In just one month, carrots are 55 per cent more expensive, cabbage 35 per cent and cucumbers, 20 per cent.

The local growers blame the importers, as almost 80 per cent of the vegetables come from abroad in winter months.

Few, however, will admit that their prices would be even higher if it was not for the competition brought about by importers.
