Over 3,800 citizens, mainly from Albania's south, have changed their nationality from Albanian to Greek in the past four weeks, said Justice Council vice-chairman Kreshnik Spahiu.
Spahiu welcomed the government's decision for postponement of the population census and asked for respect of the law and latest recommendations from Brussels over declaration of ethnic affiliation, MIA reports from Tirana.
Spahiu claimed a census with the right of declaring ethnic and religious belonging is in conflict with European conventions, and such operation "has not been conducted in any European state".
On the other hand, representatives of minorities say they do not change their nationality from Albanian into another, but "bring back their nationality and identity, which were unjustifiably and violently taken away during the communist regime."
