UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is on a visit to Bulgaria on May 5-6. At a meeting with PM Boyko Borissov he expressed his support for the strong political leadership of this country.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is on a visit to Bulgaria on May 5-6. At a meeting with PM Boyko Borissov he expressed his support for the strong political leadership of this country.

The West Balkans and the Middle East, fighting corruption and organized crime, climate change – those were some of the subjects discussed.

UN Secretary-General underlined the development of Bulgaria that donors nowadays, while in the past it used to receive support from UN.

Over 600 Bulgarian troops serve in Afghanistan, Mr. Ban Ki-moon further said, adding that this country already shares its experience on its way to democracy with the North Africa and Middle East States. This is the first visit of a UN Secretary-General to Sofia after the democratic transition process, due to a conference, dedicated to the subject.

The guest expressed his satisfaction at a meeting with Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova with the fact that he was in a city, where Jews, Christians and Muslims lived peacefully together and in a country that defended its Jews during WWII and was in good relations with all religions.
