The Sofia Pride parade for equal rights of individuals with different sexual orientation proceeded peacefully and without any incidents under reinforced police presence. Amnesty International representatives greeted the participants in the parade.

“The right of peaceful assembly is a fundamental human right”, human right activists said. Sofia Pride is a parade for equal rights of LGBT people – lesbians, gays, the bisexual and transsexual individuals.

The parade represents a peaceful protest against homophobia, discrimination and hate crime, its organizers said.

Sofia Pride 2011 parade has been supported by the embassies of USA, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Slovenia, Austria, France and Switzerland; by Bilitis Resource Center Foundation, LGTB Action youth organization, the Bulgarian Socialist Youth, Amnesty International and ILGA Europe.
