There are 288 people in Croatia with international warrants against them issued by third countries, who cannot be extradited because they have Croatian citizenship.

None of the 288 are wanted for murder, the head of the criminal police Vitomir Bijelic said.

The case of Dragan Paravinja has raised some questions in public such as how could a convicted rapist remain free to kill the 17-year-old Antonia Bilic. Paravinja – sentenced to 4.5 years in Serbia – was living and working in Croatia.

Bjelic explained that Paravinja was not sentenced in Croatia and that the international warrant was issued due to a failure to report and serve the sentence. the State Attorney’s office could not have taken over the criminal prosecution because there was no criminal prosecution, Bjelic said.

One option was that Serbia seeks that he serves the sentence in Croatia. But Croatian TPortal writes that sources in the Serbian Ministry of Justice say that they did not know Paravinja was in Croatia.

Croatia did not have a law that would have allowed it to act, while Serbia had no knowledge of his whereabouts, the portal writes.
