All roads of stage, vocal and music art lead to Ohrid. In the next 40 day Ohrid is going to be a spiritual pier, which via art will unite peoples, nations, their heritage and future, President Gjorge Ivanov said late Tuesday, opening the most prominent manifestation in Macedonia - the Ohrid Summer Festival.

It is my pleasure to be the Festival's patron, Ivanov told to numerous audience, including his colleagues from Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo, Bamir Topi, Filip Vujanovic and Atifete Jahjaga respectively.

The festival, he said, has been for years promoting the European, world's art, and in the same time the Macedonian culture and its artists across the globe.

"The pleasure is even grater as this year in Ohrid I am the host of the third Regional Summit, which reaffirms our commitment to cooperation on the road to our European future. I believe we have a reliable ally in our commitment - the culture, art and music - the universal language of humanity," Ivanov said.

Prominent Macedonian actor Petar Temelkovski said the festival had grown into a spiritual capital of the world, which has been sending strong message for over 50 years - that the culture of each nation should be an epistle of humanism, written with pure heart, kind soul and beautiful mind.

"Trilogia Romana", a grand multimedia project produced by famous Spanish company "La Fura dels Baus" and performed by the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra had the honor to open this year festival.

The manifestation, which concludes of August 20, will host about forty events.

Selector of the music program, Gordana Josifova-Nedelkovska said earlier that the festival would see the performances by Nigel Kennedy - one of the most famous violinists in the world, eminent Russian pianists, Alexander Gindin, Alexei Volodin and Boris Berezovsky, as well as many others.

Other must-see performances, especially by Macedonian artists, are the concerts by guitarist Vlatko Stefanovski and violinist Stefan Milenkovic on August, 1 and by musician Duke Bojadziev on August 2 at the Antique Theater in Ohrid.

"This year the program is different from last year's because it was retrospective. The festival once again aims to bring fresh artists from all around the world. In the past 50 years, the festival hosted an impressive number of musicians, however nowadays there is a pleiad of amazing musicians who perform in packed venues worldwide and our goal is to bring artists who haven't performed before in Ohrid," she said.

Selector of the drama program, Gjorgi Jolevski said this year's Ohrid Summer Festival offered performances of classical plays by Euripides, Heiner Muller, Beaumarchais, William Shakespeare...

There will be three premieres at the festival - "The Marriage of Figaro" directed by Levan Tsuladze and produced by the Macedonian National Theater, "Cabaret Misterioso" directed by Dejan Damjanovski and produced by the Ohrid Theater. Ohrid Summer Festival will be closed with the premiere of "Medea" directed by Nada Kokotovic and produced by the Bitola National Theater.

In addition to concerts and plays, the festival also offers numerous exhibitions.
