The EU leaders should help the Greek PM George Papandreou and the leadership and to convince them that by accession talks Greece will not be a loser and by this we will all win, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov said in the interview with today’s edition of Dnevnik daily.
The EU leaders should help the Greek PM George Papandreou and the leadership and to convince them that by accession talks Greece will not be a loser and by this we will all win, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov said in the interview with today’s edition of Dnevnik daily.
Ivanov said that confidence between Skopje and Athens will increase if Greece allows Macedonia to start EU entry talks.
- The Republic of Macedonia and its all institutions, the entire society will be focused on negotiations. Greece will have pro-European neighbour, in sense of standards. Greek leadership will demonstrate practical constructiveness, the confidence and understanding will increase, which are essential for our citizens who will vote on referendum on possible name solution. I am speaking about the leadership of our neighbour, because our two societies show that problems can be surpassed, stereotypes and prejudices from the past can be surmounted. The EU will confirm the credibility of the most successful policy ever on our continent, the enlargement. I really regret that Athens did not at all go on this road, Ivanov said.
He pointed out the position of some European countries as Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, which consider that Macedonia can lead EU entry talks and name row talks in parallel.
He said that the name solution does not only depend on Macedonia but it is possible if Athens strictly holds to frames in which the talks are led and if it shows constructiveness.
Ivanov assessed that Greece is in difficult crisis and now it does not have motive to solve the name dispute, but Macedonia has no choice and that’s why it remains a constructive partner in the talks.
- We are left to insist to return to talks in the frames set by the UN resolution and by Interim Agreement and it is finding mutually acceptable solution which will be used in the international organisations and will not influence Macedonian identity in no way and will not open more problems instead of resolving them. I hope that our friends in Greece will show sincere constructiveness, Ivanov said.
All political factors are aware of clear minimal lines under which any agreement is not possible and under which agreement is not acceptable, regardless who is on power in Macedonia and there is nothing to say here. It is a consensus. It is good that we have consensus of the most important factors regarding the need of possible conduct of referendum at which the citizens will vote, which is in direction to providing a legitimacy of this decision. We have also developed strategic frame – the need country to be integrated in NATO and EU in a dignified manner. The strategy is clear, the consensus is clear. It would be a tragedy after 20 years of independence to search for strategies and consensus, which are developed long time ago and are up to date, President Gjorge Ivanov said.

Constitutional name & identity is what the people believe and feel all their lives and they have all the legal rights to claim self identification. If you read the article clearly Ivanov states that a mutual solution through institutions is the only way to end this stupid dispute caused by one side. One side that is trying to bluff there way out of reality by bringing ancient theories and compromising EU philosiphy to ethnically cleanse a new modern state with a straight face. If the EU don't eventually step in and tame greece bully tactics, then they may have blood on their hands if there is unrest? Exactly what Greece is hoping!

Luni bin leave the derogatory remarks for the tavarna.
We've been Macedonian longer than the Christian Refugees who settled in Goce Delcev and Krste Misirkov's hometown from Turkey.
Greece can also change the name of the university and airport in Solun (Thessalonica) back to their original names. Oh and the prefectures that we renamed in the late 1980s as well.

you fyroms can shoot off all the deragatory comments you want but here is the bottom line , fyrom has no leverage. its not about right or wrong but about abiding by existing rules which include a consesus vote. twenty years your leaders have promised a resolution and the world is still waiting. so cry me a river, no resolution no admission. very simple

FYROM has made absolutely concessions we all know that..FYROM is the Americas invasion and europe along Greec is stuck with this problem for the rest of time unfortunately. They are an American puppet.
They do not recognise Greece's borders and on their maps claim Northern Greece as occupied territory that belongs to them..They do not recognise any Greek History and have manipulated to their own version.FYROM has had a propaganda war against Greece for 20 years..and they want Greece to recognise them..This politician and any poitician cannot be trusted.
FYROM and its people are going to be a major problem for europe along with the Turks..

Do you former Ottomon Turks of greece honestly believe that the Republic of Macedonia want EU membership? Why would we want to join a corrupt and fascist organisation which insisted in the destruction of your country in which it is now OWNED! Do you fools not understand that soon you will not have a say let alone an opinion as you will be once again controlled by outside parties. Your austerity measures are going to cripple your lazy and corrupt way of life and hence you will have more violent demonstrations burning your cities...you will be a police state which is once again controlled outside...your people will be more miserable and will struggle for basic necessaties...meaning more unrest and possibly the destruction of your artificial country.

If the Greek Government were to offer FYROM any more concessions the situation will be far worse than if the FYROM Government conceded. Its in everybodies best interest that FYROM concede and end this, USA knows it, EU knows it and are starting to make this clear. FYROM needs change or isolation either way the outcome will be the same. Ivanov is on his last desperate plea to the EU for help but unfortunately the sympathy card has expired!

Response to the Greeks;Lets start with changing your own name to Gaicos,or maybe to Alvanoturkia.Would you like these names hanging over your heads?.Well,we the Macedonians exist as such for centuries, even longer than you greeks. What gives you the right to change our name?Greeces claims of Macedonia being Greek is missliding. Here is why;The Hellens never accepted the Macedonians as themselves in ancient times, you do know the history, dont you,or you want me to tell you what Demosthenes and Isocrates said?.Just for refference, luni bin is not your name, but, let me name you as Sulejman, this is your name is it not?.My name is Peter, you think I can accept different name, say,Georgos.Thats not my name, how can I accept that!Yet Greece insists on changing our name,as it happened in 1936-1940 by Metaxas who started to change our names, toponims etc.In Greece, the non Macedonians claim they say that they are the true Macedonians, what about the indigenouse Macedonians in Aegean Macedonia, dont they have the right to identyfy themselves as Macedonians? Why is Greece afraid of recognising the real Macedonians, who have different language, customs etc.?What is Greece afraid of?Well,I can tell you;loss of 99% purity, loss of fabricated history.By the way,Macedonians in the Aegean part are one and the same people by ancestry, bound by the same language, customs and ethnicity. The people of the Republic of Macedonia are a multicultural society, same as Greece, and as evidence, your present President is of Albanian ancestry.27 out of 57 Prime Ministers of Greece were Albanians. What makes Greek army to sing in the streets of Athens; "we will make clothes out of Macedonians and Albanians".Are you condemning your own Presiden Papulias(Sulajman as per his ancestry)?Greeks are putting the gear first before they start their engine(mouth). Please, dont let the world lough any more.Stop with your fabricated lies.
