Bulgaria holds presidential, local run-offs on Sunday

Polling stations throughout the country opened doors at 6:00 a.m. for the second round run-offs of the presidential and local elections in Bulgaria. The elections day will end up at 7 p.m.

Polling stations throughout the country opened doors at 6:00 a.m. for the second round run-offs of the presidential and local elections in Bulgaria. The elections day will end up at 7 p.m.

The presidential elections run-off is between ruling party’s Rosen Plevneliev [the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB)] and socialist candidate Ivaylo Kalfin [the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP)].
The next president’s term in office starts in 2011 and will end up in 2016.

There will be local elections run-off in many places throughout the country. Voters will have to elect a mayor and municipal councillors for the time period of 2011-2015.

The total number of Bulgarians, who have the right to cast their vote for mayor and municipal councillors is 6,514,917, while those who will elect the next president – 6,933,748.

It will be a ‘2 in 1’ vote again, with two separate ballot papers – one for the presidential and another one for the local elections.
