President Traian Basescu said on Thursday during his visit in Berlin that Romania maintains its target to enter the euro area in 2015.

"We perceive the German minority as a solid bridge between Romania and Germany. Therefore we have all we need. Romanian people living in Germany, German people living in Romania. We have a developed trade and the will to consolidate the bilateral relation. I let Chancellor Merkel know about the measures Romania had taken and I am glad about the positive views of the German Government on the way Romania managed to re-establish the macroeconomic balance. We maintain our target to reach the euro area, to meet all criteria in 2015," Basescu told a press conference held jointly with Chancellor Angela Merkel.

He stressed that during his talk with Merkel, he pointed out Romania's view on Europe, of the necessity of a united Europe faced with a globalisation process.

"That is why Romania unreservedly supports an accelerated integration process as a solution for us to be at the switchboard of the globalisation process," Basescu said.

President Traian Basescu pays an official visit to Berlin answering the invitation extended by his German counterpart Christian Wulff.
