According to senator Petru Filip, of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL, main at rule), on January 23, starting at 1 pm, they would debate the political situation in Romania and on January 24, starting at 11 am, they would celebrate the Union of the Principalities.

Sen. Filip added that all the groups voted for convening the extraordinary session of Parliament, but emphasized the fact that the proposal made by the opposition for convening an extraordinary session for debating the political situation in Romania and the gendarmes' taking action against people demonstrating peacefully was reworded.

The Democrat Liberal assured that Premier Emil Boc would also attend the debate on the political situation in Romania, but avoided giving a definite answer referring to the presence of Minister of the Interior Traian Igas.

The Social Democrats and the Liberals on Monday, January 16, gave Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Roberta Anastase and President of the Senate Vasile Blaga a letter on convening Parliament in an extraordinary session for debating the current political situation and explanations to be given by Premier Emil Boc for the action taken by gendarmes against people that demonstrated peacefully.

"We consider that Parliament is currently the nation's only legitimate institution capable of discussing and finding a political solution to get us out of crisis. In this context, the PSD [Social Democratic Party] and PNL [National Liberal Party] parliamentary groups in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate have filed with Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Roberta Anastase and President of the Senate Vasile Blaga a letter signed by their leaders and the members of the two parties' standing bureaus, asking that an extraordinary session be summoned on January 23 and 24, according to Article 66, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution, which should have the following agenda: debating the current political situation created by the PDL rule, the major ruling party's inability and inconsistency in managing this crisis according to the Constitution, and explanations offered by Prime Minister Emil Boc on the forceful actions taken by gendarmes against the peacefully demonstrating Romanians," said at that time leader of the PSD deputies Mircea Dusa
