The European Commission (EC) reacted on the occasion of inaccurate reporting of the Federal Television (FTV) of Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the meeting held On Monday 30 January in Brussels, within the structured dialogue between EU and BiH on judiciary.
"We condemn the unfounded personal attacks against officials of the EU, which were part of the FTV news. Such unfounded and unprofessional reporting has no place on the public broadcaster, let alone in a country that wants to become an EU member," said the statement of the spokesman Peter Stan, on behalf of the Commissioner Fuele.
The meeting was held last Monday in Brussels, and hosted by the EC, convened to discuss the harmonization of the law on the RS courts with the relevant recommendations of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC).
President of the HJPC, Milorad Novkovic and Minister of Justice of RS, Dzerard Selman were therefore invited to Brussels to resolve remaining differences between the Law on Courts of RS, which is currently in the parliamentary procedure, and recent technical comments from the HJPC.
As previously announced to the institutions of government in BiH, meetings will be convened with all stakeholders, which will address specific issues on the agenda of the structured dialogue, in the framework of preparation of the next plenary meeting which is to be held in late spring.
This method is a form of well-known relationship between the EU and BiH in the justice sector and is in line with the EU approach, which requires communication with all relevant actors within their jurisdiction.
Consultations are held on the basis of the agreement reached at a high level immediately after the initiation of the structured dialogue in June 2011.
Under this arrangement, the institutional and procedural changes that will affect the work of judicial institutions throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina will be subject to discussions with the European Commission services.
"EC has also been accused of excluding other international organizations from consultations on the judiciary in BiH, which is untrue," said the statement.
Since the launch of the structured dialogue on bilateral basis between the EU and BiH, the EC services, in fact, have intensely involved all relevant international actors and rely on their expertise.
In the context of initiating the structured dialogue, the EC also alongside an international advisory group for the judiciary in BiH and intensifed bilateral consultation with international partners at a high level, said Peter Stan in the statement.
