A survey commissioned from Gallup Europe by the Croatian Ministry of Justice, and conducted in late 2007, indicates that Croatian citizens are more than aware of corruption being the biggest threat to a society.
A survey commissioned from Gallup Europe by the Croatian Ministry of Justice, and conducted in late 2007, indicates that Croatian citizens are more than aware of corruption being the biggest threat to a society.
Around 97 per cent out of 1,000 respondents included government officials and politicians in their definition of corruption.
The categories they believe are the most corrupt include judges and politicians, and after them policemen, businessmen and bankers. 54 per cent think that the ones to benefit from corruption the most are politicians and public services.
The biggest share of respondents – 20 per cent - had personal experience with corruption in healthcare.
The amounts citizens were paying as bribe for a service were relatively small, from HRK 50 to HRK 500, and 15 per cent confessed to giving more than HRK 500.
The results of this survey were used in writing the national anti-corruption strategy and action plan.
