Employees of approximately fifteen companies in Serbia are currently out on strike due to unpaid salaries.
Trade unions believe Serbia is going to face with a wave of strikes in 2010. In spite of the fact that the Labor Act in Serbia clearly provides that employers must pay out monthly salaries, it often happens that employers do not pay salaries for months, even for years.
Interventions of the State Labor Inspectorate rarely produce any effect and mostly end up by firing the person who called the inspection. This is the reason why workers try to find a solution by coming out on strike, according to trade unions.
