Minister of Energy and Mining Petar Skundric and Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Trajcho Trajkov will sign a joint statement on 5 March in Brussels which will enable the implementation of the gas interconnection project between Serbia and Bulgaria.
The Ministry says in a statement that the gas pipeline passing through Nis and crossing the border near Dimitrovgrad will be the first interconnection between the Serbian and Bulgarian gas transportation systems.
It will increase gas supply stability between the two countries and in the entire region. The project is part of the Energy Community’s Gas Ring concept, promoted by the European Commission.
The estimated investment for around 180 kilometres of gas pipeline, with a capacity exceeding two billion cubic metres, is €100–120 million. The project will be endorsed from EU funds.
Director General of the Serbian gas company Srbijagas Dusan Bajatovic, Bulgartransgaz Executive Director Ivan Drenovichki and European Commissioner for Energy Günter Ettinger will also attend the signing.
