Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said after talks with President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy in Brussels that Serbia eagerly awaits the beginning of the process of ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the European Union (EU).
Cvetkovic said that 2009 was a very successful year for Serbia in terms of European integration and that it will do everything to continue the reform process, including the completion of cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
He pointed out that good neighbourly relations are a common value of Serbia and the EU and Serbia will do everything to establish friendly relations and cooperation in the region.
Rompuy praised the work of the Serbian government and Prime Minister Cvetkovic in the process of European integration, and said that the EU supports the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
He informed Cvetkovic about his talks with ICTY Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz, who expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with Serbia and its efforts to bring this cooperation to an end.
Rompuy said that in June the EU Council will examine the possibility of starting the ratification of the SAA.
Cvetkovic will speak with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels today about Serbia’s further steps in the process of European integration.
The Serbian Prime Minister will also meet with his Belgian counterpart Yves Leterme to discuss improvements in bilateral cooperation and to sign an agreement on international road traffic between the governments of Serbia and Belgium.
