State Secretary for Kosovo Oliver Ivanovic has said it is possible for the western countries to offer to divide Kosovo after a certain number of years, when they conclude that they cannot solve the Kosovo issue.

State Secretary for Kosovo Oliver Ivanovic has said it is possible for the western countries to offer to divide Kosovo after a certain number of years, when they conclude that they cannot solve the Kosovo issue.

"I fear western pragmatism, because it will offer solutions that might cause territorial divisions," Ivanovic told Press daily.

"The territorial issue will not be put on the table by us or the Kosovo Albanians," said Ivanovic, who thinks that the western world might conclude that it cannot resolve the Kosovo issue after a certain number of years and then decide to offer a compromise solution.

Ivanovic stated that he told UK Minister for Europe David Lidington that a Cyprus-like model should be considered as a possible solution in Kosovo.

"That means Serbia would enter the EU with its whole territory, i.e. with Kosovo, but the EU rules would not be applied in Kosovo, just like Cyprus entered as a whole, but the EU rules and visa liberalization do not apply to the northern part," Ivanovic explained.

He added another reason, which is the fact that Kosovo and Serbia have had separate mechanisms for EU accession since 2003, caused by a huge difference in achieved European standards between Kosovo and the rest of Serbia
