Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Chavushoglu has stated that there is no consensus within the Assembly on accession of Kosovo into the Council of Europe and that no such request had so far been received from Pristina, announcing that a debate on human organ trafficking will be held in PACE in October.
There is no consensus in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on this since not all of the countries recognized independence (of Kosovo), and in such a situation it is difficult to have Kosovo become a member in our organization, Chavushoglu said for “Novosti”.
The situation in Kosovo "is not very promising. People are poor, and there is the issue of refugees, missing persons, illegal activities, such as human and organ trafficking.
That is why our resolution recommends a dialogue between PACE and politicians in Kosovo with respect of Serbia, of course," said Chavushoglu. He believes that absence of dialogue and trust are the biggest challenges in the WBalkans, while Serbia plays a positive role in the region.
"Over the past years, Serbia is very much interested in membership in the EU and in fulfilling its obligations, and it plays a rather positive role in the region," he said, underscoring that he supports the EU integration of the region very much.
