President Boris Tadic said in Novi Sad on June 28 that it is necessary to engage all state and national potentials in order to realize great deeds, the biggest of which, in his words, is Serbia's inclusion in the European family of nations.

President Boris Tadic said in Novi Sad on June 28 that it is necessary to engage all state and national potentials in order to realize great deeds, the biggest of which, in his words, is Serbia's inclusion in the European family of nations.

At the celebration of the Serbian Renewal Movement's patron saint day - Vidovdan, Tadic said he is convinced that joint efforts, which have often been invested in rather difficult times of challenge and risk, will eventually be completed successfully and that Serbia will join the EU.

"I believe that today we have a democratic society, which we can be proud of, but we can further build democracy and national institutions believing that in the future we can contribute to Europe as a whole with what we have, our identity," the president said.

The wish of all, according to Tadic, is to see Serbia in the EU as all other nations - with its identity. He added that the Serbian Renewal Movement has always cherished the identity of the Serbian people, but at the same time respected the identity of any other nation living in the former Yugoslavia.

"I am convinced that it will remain the same in the future as the respect for the rights of others and other people's identity is a presumption of the freedom of our own country and our people," Tadic stressed. "But we can never give up our identity and therefore the national holiday Vidovdan (the day of the Battle of Kosovo in 1389) is a part of our tradition and our identity in the future," he added.

Renewal leader Vuk Draskovic said the establishing of an organized and democratic Serbia is possible only with the country's serious and courageous accession to Euro-Atlantic integrations.

"Only such a path will lead to a democratic and organized Serbia, the balanced development of regions and municipalities and to foreign investment," Draskovic said. He added that it would also mean the moral healing of the nation, the defeat of "various phobias" and the final disappearance of centers of power.
