The 621st anniversary of the Kosovo Battle was marked in Krusevac with the laying of wreaths on the monument to Kosovo Serb heroes and by paying state and military homage.

Wreaths were laid by representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy of Serbia, Defence Ministry, Serbian Army, the city of Krusevac and NGOs cherishing the memory of liberation wars of Serbia.

The Serbian Orthodox Church and believers are marking Vidovdan today, paying homage to Prince Lazar Hrebeljanovic and Serbian heroes killed in the battle against the Ottoman Turks in the Kosovo field in 1389.

The defeat of Serbs in the Kosovo Battle marked the decline of the strong medieval state of Serbia and the beginning of the five-centuries’ long rule of the Ottoman Empire in these regions.
