On July 14, U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick announced that the U.S. will invest $700,000 in the reconstruction of “Dragisa Misovic” hospital in Belgrade.
Clinical Center "Dragisa Misovic" employs 1,300 people and annually provides more than a million check-ups, treats more than 20,000 inpatients and performs more than 10,000 operations. In October of last year a major fire broke out at this hospital, triggering the evacuation of patients.
“While our Embassy was able to assist immediately after the fire with the donation of this heart rate monitor, today I am here to express even greater commitment. I’m pleased to announce that the U.S. will invest over $700,000 in the reconstruction of the emergency room and recovery area of this important hospital,” said Ambassador Warlick.
“Our donation shows support not only for all the doctors and patients of Dragisa Misovic hospital, but also to Serbia’s healthcare system. We are privileged, as Americans working at the U.S. Embassy, to have access to the medical services at your hospitals and to live as part of your community. Because we depend on you for support, we have an obligation to help the community when we can. Supporting a hospital or school is the best way to ‘give something back to your community,’ which should be a universal principle of donors’ engagement,” explained Ambassador Warlick.
