Wrangles over the carving up of property caused by the break up of former Yugoslavia have spilled back into the courts after Serbian JAT Airways sued Croatia and Croatia Airlines over 60 million Euros worth of property that the company claims it never recovered.
They say Croatia used JAT's properties to found the Croatia Airline and the property includes about 8,560 square meters of office and residential space, including 67 apartments, a hotel and additional facilities for aircraft maintenance.
JAT has filed a claim against Croatia and Croatia Airlines, but have not yet received any answers, the company's executive director Milan Cvejic said. Croatia Airlines claims they have not received an official lawsuit and therefore cannot comment, the business daily Poslovni Dnevnik Writes.
The reports about Croatian oil company INA which is currently in court with Serbia over its property that they claim the Serbian government appropriated and later sold to Russian Lukoil, have sparked an interest in Serbian properties in Croatia. The value of these Serbian properties is estimated at two billion Euros.
Amongst the companies that have the most property in Croatia are Geneks, NIS, Ineks, Jat Airways, Simpo, Serbian Railways and Carnex.
