The 50th jubilee trumpet festival in Guca has been opened  by hoisting the festival flag, shooting from mortars and playing the song “Sa Ovcara i Kablara” (From the Mountains of Ovcar and Kablar). The festival will last until 22 August.

Minister for Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic opened this event at which, for the first time, trumpeters from all continents will compete for “The First Trumpet of the World”.

The host of this year’s festival is president of Lucani municipality Slobodan Jolovic and the Serbian government is the sponsor again this year.

On the first day of the Festival, a monument to the winner of the first trumpet festival in Guca Desimir Perisic will be unveiled at the entrance to the town and a trumpet museum will also be opened.

The festival will offer a rich programme with performances by local and foreign wind orchestras and exhibitions of folk handicrafts.

It is expected that the festival will be visited by almost a million folk music and art fans and there will be around 2,000 performers.

Almost 1,000 reporter crews from Serbia and abroad will cover the festival.
