Researcher of the Institute of International Relations in Prague Filip Tesar believes that Serbia has the chance of obtaining the EU candidate status in one year.
When it comes to the cooperation with the ICTY, the West is starting to think that the Serbian government is really trying, but that the task of finding Ratko Mladic is simply too difficult, Tesar stated for the Radio Free Europe.
Serbia could fulfill conditions for obtaining the candidate status in one year, even more so because, unlike Montenegro and Albania, it has no problem with personnel or administrative capacities for the pre-accession talks.
The problem that may hinder the obtaining of the EU candidate status is more likely to be in the area of economy, that is in the difficulties that Serbia may have in successfully answering the economic chapters of the European Commission's questionnaire.
