President of Croatian Chamber of Economy Nadan Vidosevic pointed out on Thursday that, in a joint effort, Serbia and Croatia can assume a prominent role on the European market.

President of Croatian Chamber of Economy Nadan Vidosevic pointed out on Thursday that, in a joint effort, Serbia and Croatia can assume a prominent role on the European market.

"I cannot wait for the day when we will be allies on the market of Europe and wider," said Vidosevic addressing numerous participants of the Business Forum in Zagreb.

Vidosevic and President of Serbian Chamber of Commerce Milos Bugarin estimated that the scope of trade between the two countries shows an upward tendency, but that it is high time for expansion into foreign markets.

Vidosevic said that Serbia and Croatia achieved a lot in bilateral trade, underlining the fact that before the global crisis they had a 24-fold increase in mutual trade, which is a success no other European country has achieved.

Vidosevic noted that sub-contractor's arrangements with Serbia offer great prospects, mentioning the possible participation of Croatia's companies in the supply chains for the Fiat factory in Kragujevac.

Bugarin recalled that in 2008 the scope of trade amounted to USD 1.2 billion, which illustrates best that the cooperation between the two countries is successful.

Bugarin said that in its trade with Croatia, Serbia has registered a deficit which is not big and can be reduced during the next year.

He said that more complex forms of economic cooperation, such as joint investing and creating conditions for expansion into other markets, are vital for boosting the economies of the two countries.
