Customs Administrations of Serbia and Montenegro signed on Friday a protocol on joint border inspection in railway transport, which opened an opportunity for a more efficient monitoring and quicker transport of goods and passengers between the two countries.
Goods will be inspected only at the Bijelo Polje railway station, where customs services will be based, which will carry out all inspection activities related to goods, while inspection of passengers will be performed while the train is in motion.
The protocol was signed by Serbian Customs Service Director Predrag Petronijevic and his Montenegrin counterpart Bozidar Vuksanovic, the Serbian Customs Administration released.
The full implementation of the project will contribute to reducing the costs in the transport of goods, increasing the competitiveness of companies whose goods are being transported by the line and accelerating passenger transport, especially during the tourist season, Petronijevic said.
Vuksanovic pointed out that the protocol will help strengthen cooperation between the two customs administrations, which will have a direct influence on the preventing breach of regulations and more efficient fight against crime.
The protocol creates conditions for a more rational and prompter implementation of customs activities and procedures, and it also makes room for an integrated and coordinated inspection of railway transport, the release notes.
