Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas conferred Tuesday with European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin on Belgrade's candidacy for European culture capital in 2020.

Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas conferred Tuesday with European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin on Belgrade's candidacy for European culture capital in 2020.

Serbia's integration in the European Union is not only a political or economic category and does not concern only transport or visas, it also includes culture, Kacin told the press after meeting Djilas and Belgrade Deputy Secretary for Culture Aleksandar Pekovic.

Serbia and Belgrade have a very motivated team committed to the future and able to realize the set goals, Kacin said.

With its intellectual elite and though cultural exchange, Serbia should in the coming years work on improving its image in the EU, he said.

Kacin commended Djilas for standing firm behind the vision of Belgrade being European culture capital.

Pekovic said that after a year of hard work on preparing Belgrade's candidacy, it was recently presented and positively assessed in Brussels.
