Socialist Party of Serbia-United Serbia whip Branko Ruzic stated Monday that he expects that regular parliamentary elections will be called at the beginning of 2012 and that a new government, regardless of its structure, will continue to pursue the set goals.

Socialist Party of Serbia-United Serbia whip Branko Ruzic stated Monday that he expects that regular parliamentary elections will be called at the beginning of 2012 and that a new government, regardless of its structure, will continue to pursue the set goals.

In an interview with the Belgrade-based TV Pink, Ruzic said that the announced government reshuffle will prove justified if it increases the efficiency of that body and speeds up the realization of the goals, and added that coalition partners should have citizens' best interest at heart and reach a consensus regarding the future moves.

“The political stability has been achieved, unlike the social-economic one, but I think that the government has good prospects of reaching that goal before the country joins the EU,” he said.

According to Ruzic, Serbia has made a significant progress on its European pathway, and the EU approval for each such step is evident.

“There is no reason either pessimism or optimism. It is in the country's best interest to adjust its legislation to the EU standards,” Ruzic stated pointing out that the EU candidate status entails certain benefits such as access to the body's funds.

Commenting on the CeO rapporteur Dick Marty's report on human organ trafficking in Kosovo-Metohija and the fact that Albanians are collecting signatures against the document, Ruzic said that the truth must be established and the perpetrators punished.

“You can collect as many signatures as you like, but you cannot conceal the truth. Marty's report has been made public, and the international community cannot disregard it,” Ruzic concluded.
