The Serbian Ministry of Infrastructure said in a release Tuesday that it would provide financial assistance to the city of Valjevo (central Serbia) and the town of Vrsac (Vojvodina), located on the future Corridor 11 route, to develop infrastructure.

“Both Valjevo and Vrsac primarily want to be linked with the future Corridor 11, which will connect Romania, via Vrsac, Belgrade, Novi Sad and Boljare, with Serbia and Montenegro,” the release says.

Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic was visited by Mayor of Valjevo Zoran Jakovljevic and Mayor of Vrsac Cedomir Zivkovic who presented their infrastructure plans.

The minister agreed to implement 12 Valjevo-based projects for rehabilitation of landslides, building roads and local infrastructure worth RSD 150 million.

He also said that a railway project Valjevo-Loznica should be completed soon, through the activation of a Russian loan, and announced the beginning of the construction of a road with three lanes which would connect Valjevo to the Corridor 11.

The ministry will allocate RSD 300 million for the completion of the bypass in Vrsac, another sum for landslide repairs in the village of Kustin and RSD 110 million for construction of local roads.

The minister said that Serbia would be a great building site this year, adding that it was not only about big national projects but also about an ambitious construction of local infrastructure.
