Alliance for New Kosovo (AKR) has asked for guarantees from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) of Prime Minister Hashim Thaci that its leader Bedgjet Pacolli would be re-elected Kosovo President, otherwise threatening to leave the ruling coalition, reads Pristina daily "Koha Ditore".

Newspaper source in the AKR says it is possible that the party withdraws its ministers from the government at the beginning of next week if Thaci fails to provide guarantees that Pacolli will be Kosovo President again.

Acting AKR leader Ibrahim Makoli says the PM should respect the coalition agreement, according to which the Kosovo President should come from AKR.

"If the agreement is not respected, then we have to reason to remain in coalition with PDK", stresses Makoli.

An AKR source says there is strong feeling within the party that Thaci is not ready to respect the agreement.

"Thaci is not prepared to guarantee that at least eight PDK MPs will vote for Pacolli, whose nod is required for the presidential election", adds the source on condition of anonymity.

According to the source, PDK has altered its stance over Pacolli's election immediately after the Constitutional Court ruling that acting Kosovo President Jakup Krasniqi can hold the post for six months.

On Monday, the Kosovo Constitutional court ruled Pacolli's presidential election illegal, elaborating the Parliament vote was marred by irregularities.
