80 percent of heroin from Western Europe is passing through Balkans

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has stated at the International Drug Enforcement Conference in Cancun, Mexico, that the trafficking route of almost 80 percent of heroin from Western Europe is passing through the Balkans.

Dacic added that therefore the region is in need of agencies for fight against illegal drug trafficking.

“For that reason, the information exchange with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the organizer of the conference, has been stepped up, and only during the last year there were nearly a thousand pieces of information which entered the exchange channels,” reads a report of the Serbian Interior Ministry quoting Dacic.

According to Dacic, the motto of the conference is to join forces in fight against drug-related crime which is spread round the globe.

The MUP members held a presentation on trends of organized crimes in the Balkans, with special focus on the Balkan war against heroin.

Dacic arrived on a four-day visit to Mexico on April 4.
