Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic said tonight that after his consultations in Belgrade with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, he sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon with a proposal for a comprehensive investigation into the allegations on trafficking in human organs in Kosovo-Metohija.
Jeremic said in a statement with a local TV station that it is imperative that this investigation has the mandate of the UN Security Council.
He said that all war crimes in the former Yugoslavia should be investigated with the mandate of the UN Security Council and warned that, if this be not the case with Kosovo-Metohija, one would get the impression of double standards.
According to Serbia's proposal, a rapporteur who would inform the UN Security Council on the progress of the investigation would be appointed, said Jeremic.
Jeremic said that Ban Ki-moon will forward Serbia’s proposals to members of the UN Security Council, which will then enter into consultations.
These consultations, which have been agreed on with the Russian side, will last several weeks, said the Minister and announced that the UN Security Council session on trafficking in human organs in Kosovo-Metohija will be held on 12 May.
The Serbian Foreign Minister pointed out that he and Lavrov agreed on the text of the agreement on strategic partnership between Serbia and the Russian Federation, which should be signed by the presidents of Serbia and the Russian Federation Boris Tadic and Dmitry Medvedev in late June in Moscow.
The agreement will define specific relations between the two countries, and Serbia will formally become the main partner of Russia in this region, explained the Minister.
He added that the agreement will contain some of the issues of energy cooperation, adding that this is an umbrella agreement between the two countries as the basis for all subsequent bilateral agreements.
