First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic called late yesterday on the citizens belonging to Roma national minority not to seek asylum in Western Europe countries because this can endanger state and national interests of Serbia.

Upon his visit to a Roma settlement in Zemun, where he attended the celebration of Saint Mark Patron Saint’s Day in the house of Estef Ramadanovic, Dacic told the Roma citizens that Serbia is their country and that all citizens in Serbia, regardless of nationality, should have the same rights and be equal.

I urge Roma not to go to Europe and seek asylum because they will be returned for sure, but that we do everything in our power to make their life better, Dacic underlined.

He underlined that for Serbia all its citizens are absolutely equal, and said that solution to one of the problems of Roma will be amendments to the Law on domicile, which will enable them to get documents although they have no address.

We want to work on inclusion of Roma and we want to tell them that seeking asylum is definitely not the way to solve problems, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior concluded.
