The author of the visitors' center project, architect Sinisa Temerinski, stated that the building of the protective construction over the archaeological site started in 2008, adding that it is now ready for visitors.
Temerinski said that conservation works have been completed, that a virtual reconstruction of the neolithic village has been prepared, and that the museum collection is ready for visitors.
All works cost about RSD 350 million, and the investor is the Tourism Sector of the Serbian Ministry of Economy and Regional Development.
Currently, the only access to Lepenski vir is from the main road, but according to Temerinski, the projects have been completed for the construction of a port for the Danube River cruise ships, travelling along Corridor 7, which is becoming increasingly significant in the tourist programs of the European tour operators.
The project of protecting and presenting Lepenski vir and restoring the protected area was made by the Serbian Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, in cooperation with the Tourism organization of Majdanpek municipality, with the support of the Tourism Sector of the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development.
