Belgrade: Zoo celebrates 75th anniversary

The Belgrade Zoo was opened 75 years ago by the then Mayor Vlada Ilic, and it spread on 3.5 hectares, later expanded to 14 hectares.Due to the destruction, the Zoo was later reduced to seven hectares, which is the size of its current surface, and it now has about 2,000 animals.
Belgrade Zoo has marked the 75th anniversary and on the occasion, a new cage for white tigers has been officially opened, unveiled was a sculpture of a griffon vulture, created by Director of the Zoo Vuk Bojovic, a sculptor, and a series of postage stamps with images of white animals is promoted.
On the occasion of the jubilee, Bojovic was handed over the certificate of ISO 9001, as a proof of the quality of work of this institution, the like of which can be found in very few facilities of its kind in the world.

During the bombing of Belgrade in World War II, in 1941 and 1944, the Zoo was destroyed and almost all animals killed.
